Overcoming Writing Struggles | Three Awesome Quick Tips to Help You Stay on Track!

I will be the first to admit that I have struggled with staying on track with writing. I always found other things that “seemed” more important like, watching television, scrolling Facebook, playing with the dog, doing the laundry or another life event.

These were mere distractions in my writing life; distractions that were standing in the way of me and my dream of becoming a writer and eventually a published author. It wasn’t until I made an agreement with myself that what I had to write, others needed to know it about. This was my motivation to keep writing and I know that you have that ONE motivation also that will make it click within you to say “Enough is enough. I must write!”

If you have a dream of writing and like me, there’s a story in you that needs to be told, make a decision to push past the distractions, jump over the hurdles, and plunge through the obstacles in order to make it happen.

Here are THREE awesome tips that you can implement NOW that will increase your productivity and give you an enthusiasm for writing. It is my hope that you gain confidence to write and make your story beautiful.

  1. Be FEARLESS: It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a perfect plan in place. Who cares? What you can do, right now, starting today is set daily goals. For example, if you can set aside 30 minutes a day and just devote that to writing, by the end of the week, you may have a paragraph, a page, two pages or more. Whatever you produce by the end of the week, it would have been MORE than if you had done nothing but the same routine you were doing before.

  2. MAKE Time: We all have 24 hours in a day. Just do it already! I laugh at myself because “not having enough time” was usually my issue until I realized that I had the same amount of hours in a day that everyone else had. It was how I chose to use my time. When we begin to take responsibility for our own 24 hours and make a decision to DO what we desire to DO, we will make time to get it done. Making time takes discipline, but I know you can do it. When you set your goal, schedule in the time to do it. It’s important and is the difference between winning and losing.

  3. RID Yourself of Interruptions: My mobile device was my BIGGEST interruption. I would attempt to write with it sitting beside me. My curiosity was so heightened that every few minutes I would just have to check my text messages, emails or see what the latest post was on Facebook. Now I don’t write with the phone in the room. My writing time is MY time. Whatever you have to do to take control, do it. Go in your bedroom and place a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door; go to a local library or coffee house; get a babysitter if you; or whatever you need to do to “decrease interruptions”. I promise it will be well worth it and you’ll feel ACCOMPLISHED!

By implementing just these three quick tips, you’ll be well on your way in no time to developing a successful writing life. FIRST you have to believe in yourself and then make an agreement with yourself to complete your writing goals.
