Rest and Grind Culture Will Never Mix…Here’s Why.

“The bravest warriors know when to retreat.” ~ Margaret Joyce Connolly.

Peace and Joy, Beloved,

I pray rest and relaxation is surrounding you today. If not, I pray it soon comes.

This message was inspired from a retreat marketing campaign that rolled into my Instagram feed this morning. The colors were beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, however reading the itinerary made me feel consumed, overwhelmed, and tired. It was grind culture framed as a healing retreat. It was packed with a lot of DOING and very little BEING. It was packed with a lot of “how to get my business popping with profits” and less about facilitating a safe space for me to breathe and tap into the overflowing well of abundance within. Retreat is “the act of giving up and withdrawing or a time away in a quiet and secluded place where you can relax.” Grind culture is “the idea that status is achieved by always being “on and available.” This ad was a reminder and a reflection of how everyday life can be if we are not cognizant and intentional about rest. Our lives can be so filled with work deadlines, to do lists, and tasks that if not careful, we forget to fully breathe. Our brain becomes filled with thoughts of “what next” rather than savoring the “right now.” Unlike “Rise and Shine,” Rest and Grind are polar opposites. One has to be sacrificed for the other to be successful. We are sacred beings, worthy of peace and tranquillity. We never have to grind. We are capable of calling forth every good thing to us by who we be, not by what we do. Create the space to relax today…Your mind, your body, and your soul. You’ve done enough. xo,
